Professional Development

For over twenty years, Science East has offered interactive professional development workshops for educators. Participants experience inquiry-based activities in a manner similar to how students experience them. This provides time for educators to play, test activities and understand how inquiry-based instruction can be implemented in their own classrooms.

2018 Professional Development SUMMER CAMPS for TEACHERS!

July 30th to August 3rd for Middle School Teachers

August 13th to August 17th for Elementary School Teachers

New and experienced teachers who are interested in learning more about inquiry-based science are encouraged to participate.

We will focus heavily on hands-on science, with plenty of opportunities to design and test out new activities with other participants as well as with children attending Science East summer camps.

Participants will explore the role of inquiry in the context of scientific literacy, and learn how to apply this to their classroom. Discover new ways to encourage curiosity and natural inquisitiveness in your students, and leave with new ideas and materials to use in your classroom.

Camps will take place on the St Thomas University campus, with some time spent at Science East.

There is no charge for the camps. Attendees should bring along laptops and a couple of their favourite science activities to share and workshop.

Space is limited! There is a maximum of 16 people per each camp.

Register today by contacting: science@scienceeast.nb.ca or phone 506-457-2340 x 124.

Activities are chosen based on the grade levels taught by participants, ensuring activities are related to the required curriculum. In addition, activities and information delivered is based on the Science Learning Resources Packages developed by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in collaboration with Science East.

Sessions range for 1 hour to a full day.
