Workshops
Hands-on, curriculum-linked science that comes to you.
Bring science to life with interactive workshops designed for students from PreK to Grade 12. Students experiment, build, investigate and solve problems while developing real STEM skills.
What We Offer
Science that gets students doing.
Science East workshops turn classroom learning into hands-on experiences. Students experiment, build, investigate and solve problems while exploring science, technology, engineering and mathematics with our educators.
Curriculum-Linked
Workshops complement classroom learning and connect hands-on activities with curriculum outcomes.
Pre-K to Grade 12
Experiences are designed for learners at different ages and stages, from early exploration to more advanced STEM challenges.
45–60 Minutes
Each session gives students time to explore a STEM topic through instruction and hands-on activities.
25–30 Students
Workshops are designed for approximately one classroom of students at a time.
We Bring Everything
Science East comes to you with the materials and equipment needed for the workshop.
Offered in English & French
All Science East workshops are available in either English or French.

Sense-Sational Science!
Look. Listen. Touch. Discover!
Young scientists put their senses to the test through playful, hands-on investigations using surprising objects and scientific tools.
About this workshop
Young scientists put their senses to the test in this playful, hands-on exploration of the world around them! Through a variety of activities, surprising objects and scientific tools, students will use their senses to investigate, compare and uncover clues.
Along the way, they’ll practise some of the most important skills scientists use every day—making careful observations, collecting information and making predictions. Science starts with noticing, and there’s a whole world waiting to be discovered!
Book This Workshop →Amazing Animals of New Brunswick
Tracks, skulls, scat and the clues animals leave behind.
Become a wildlife detective and investigate the clues left behind by animals that call New Brunswick home.
About this workshop
Who’s been here? Put your wildlife detective skills to the test as you uncover the animals that call New Brunswick home! Students will examine real-world clues like skulls, tracks and scat to identify local wildlife and discover how scientists learn about animals without always seeing them.
Along the way, students will explore predators and prey, herbivores and carnivores, adaptations, habitats and the fascinating ways New Brunswick animals survive in the wild.
Book This Workshop →The Habitat Challenge
Design a habitat that has everything an animal needs to survive.
Explore animal needs, environments and adaptations before designing a habitat for an assigned animal.
About this workshop
What does an animal really need to survive? In this hands-on design challenge, students are given an animal and tasked with creating a habitat that meets its unique needs.
Students will explore how animals depend on their environment for food, water, shelter and space, then decide what their habitat needs to include to help their animal survive. They'll need to consider the animal's needs, its surroundings, potential threats and the adaptations that help it thrive.
As they build their habitat diagram diorama, students will discover how animals, resources and environments are all connected—and how changes to a habitat can impact the animals that depend on it.
Book This Workshop →Built to Survive!
Create the ultimate animal for an extreme environment.
Explore how adaptations help animals survive, then design a one-of-a-kind creature built for an extreme environment.
About this workshop
Could your animal survive the freezing cold of the Arctic—or make its home beside a scorching volcano? In Built to Survive!, students become creature creators as they design their own animal equipped to survive in an extreme environment.
Students will explore how real animals use physical and behavioural adaptations to find food, stay safe, handle harsh conditions, and work together to survive. Then they’ll put their creativity and science knowledge to the test by inventing a one-of-a-kind creature with everything it needs to survive and thrive!
Book This Workshop →Life in the Ocean
Dive into the science of life beneath the surface.
Explore marine habitats, adaptations, food chains and scientific classification while discovering the diversity of ocean life.
About this workshop
Take a dive into the incredible world beneath the waves! Students will explore ocean habitats, marine animals and the complex connections that keep ocean ecosystems thriving through a variety of hands-on activities.
They’ll discover how different animals are adapted to life at different ocean depths, explore marine food chains, and practise scientific classification using a dichotomous key. Students can also get creative while learning about marine life by making their own fish prints.
From the sunlit surface to the darkest depths, students will discover just how diverse—and connected—life in our oceans can be.
Book This Workshop →Simple Machines
Build it. Move it. Make it work.
Experiment with simple machines before tackling an engineering challenge inspired by the Great Pyramid of Giza.
About this workshop
Explore how simple machines make it easier to move, lift and change the direction of objects. Students will experiment with levers, pulleys, inclined planes, wheels and axles, wedges and screws to discover how each one works.
Students will travel back in time 4600 years, right on time to witness the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Ancient Egypt. They’ll put their knowledge to the test in an engineering challenge: design and build a system using simple machines to move the blocks from Point A to Point B and help build the pyramids.
Students will plan, build, test and improve their designs as they discover how simple machines can work together to solve a problem.
Book This Workshop →Earthquake Challenge
Build it. Test it. Will it survive an earthquake?
Design and build a structure, test it on an earthquake table, then use what you discover to improve your design.
About this workshop
Can you build a structure strong enough to survive an earthquake? In this design challenge, students become engineers as they design, build and put their structures to the ultimate test—the earthquake table!
Students will investigate how shapes, materials and design choices affect the strength and stability of structures. Working together, they’ll build their own creations, test them against simulated earthquake forces, and use what they discover to improve their designs.
Will their structure stand strong…or come crashing down?
Book This Workshop →Robot Quest
Big coding adventures—no screens required.
Use age-appropriate robots to experiment with commands, sequences, patterns and problem-solving.
About this workshop
Meet your new robot teammate! In Robot Quest, students jump into the exciting world of robotics and coding through playful, hands-on challenges designed just for their age and ability level.
Using robots such as Code-a-Pillar, Botley and Ozobots, students will experiment with commands, sequences, patterns and problem-solving as they figure out how to get their robot from here to there.
Along the way, they’ll build computational thinking skills, learn from trial and error, and discover that coding doesn’t have to start with a screen.
Book This Workshop →Mission Mars
Explore Mars through coding and robotics.
A Mars-inspired Ozobot experience designed for students in Grades 6–8.
About this workshop
Mission Mars is a hands-on Ozobot activity for students in Grades 6–8, combining robotics and coding with a Mars exploration theme.
More detailed program information is coming soon.
Book This Workshop →Inside the Science Lab
Real tools. Real experiments. Real science.
Use scientific instruments to observe, measure, test and analyze while developing practical lab and inquiry skills.
About this workshop
Step into the role of a scientist and discover how the right tools can help us uncover things we can't see with our eyes alone! Students will get hands-on experience using scientific instruments to observe, measure, test and analyze.
Depending on age and grade level, students may investigate the properties of different samples, explore pH, temperature or salinity, use microscopes to take a closer look at the world around them, or even explore DNA through hands-on experimentation.
Along the way, students will learn how scientists use evidence, careful observation and specialized tools to investigate questions and make discoveries.
