Science East’s Chief Science Officer, Michael Edwards has been awarded the 2026 Distinguished Service Award from Youth Science Canada (YSC). This prestigious recognition celebrates those who have made outstanding contributions to youth STEM development across Canada through their innovation, dedication, and leadership.
Michael Edwards has been a driving force behind science education and youth STEM engagement in New Brunswick for more than 28 years. In his role with Science East, Michael has inspired thousands of young people to explore science with curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
Michael plays a vital role in developing hands-on learning experiences, supporting regional and national science fairs, and mentoring students as they pursue innovative STEM projects. His dedication has strengthened New Brunswick’s science fair community and created opportunities for youth to discover their potential in science and technology. Through his regular segment on CBC Radio, Michael educates listeners about new scientific discoveries and the science behind everyday life.
Michael has previously been recognized by the Canadian Association of Science Centres for the Best Outreach Program in Canada (2014), the Making a Difference Award (2017) and the Best Project Award (2021).
